The fourth-largest city in Arizona is Chandler. It's located in one the most rapidly growing innovation and technology hubs in the country. Chandler is a diverse and vibrant community that values fiscal responsibility. It attracts world-class industry leaders, innovative startups, skilled workers, and their families. Chandler is a wonderful place to live, work, and play. There are many great restaurants, hotels, golf courses and other options. It's also a great spot to shop and enjoy a vacation. See what Chandler has to say!
With four locations in the city, Intel, the computer chip manufacturer, plays an important role in city growth strategies. This includes its first factory to be declared "environmentally sustainable" under the current Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. A series of grants to train net new employees and to incorporate the Phoenix urbanized region (27,000 people now commute to other communities), has resulted in a greater market share.
Alexander John Chandler was the first Arizona Territory veterinarian. He settled down on a ranch in south Mesa in 1891 to study irrigation engineering. He had 18,000 acres (73km2) of land and started to draw up plans for a townsite at what was known as Chandler Ranch. On May 16, 1912, the townsite office was opened.
Galveston Street was the northern boundary of the original townsite. Frye Road was to the south and Hartford Street to the west. Hamilton Street to the east was Hamilton Street. A town center was established in 1913. It featured the Hotel San Marcos and the first state-owned grass golf course. In 1914, Chandler High School was founded. After 186 residents petitioned for incorporation, Chandler was officially incorporated on February 16, 2021. A. J. Chandler, the founder of Chandler Town, was elected as the first president of the town council and the first mayor.
Chandler's economy survived the Great Depression. However, the Depression was responsible for canceling a second San Marcos Hotel. But the cotton crash of 1939 had a deeper impact on the city. Although there was a slight increase in population after the establishment of Williams Air Force Base, in 1941, Chandler still had 3,800 residents in 1950. It had grown to 30,000 by 1980. Suburban residential areas have taken over former agricultural land. This growth was partly fueled by the creation of manufacturing plants for communication and computing companies like Motorola, Microchip and Intel.
Residents and visitors can use the Chandler Community Services Department to provide recreation, exercise, cultural, artistic, and educational opportunities. They also offer classes, programs, and special events. In Old Downtown Chandler, the Community Services Department operates the community center and senior center, as well as dozens of community and neighborhood parks, two recreation centers, and six aquatic centers.
Chandler, with the exception of some remaining county islands, has reached its physical limits. It cannot expand beyond that point due to being bound in by the Gila River Indian Community.
